Car Crashes Into KFC In Burlington

Burlington, NC -- An 86-year-old woman caused quite a stir at a KFC in Burlington Sunday.

Burlington Police say Ruth Aydt was unable to slow down while driving her 1988 Lincoln Town Car through the KFC parking lot. She hit a man driving a Volvo with so much force, it sent the Volvo into a parked car.

Aydt's car kept going and hit two more parked cars before crashing into the restaurant.

Five people inside the KFC reported minor injuries. Two customers were struck by the car and three were hit by debris from the crash.

Three of the five were transported to Alamance Regional Medical Center for treatment and later released. Two of the five people refused transport and treatment.

Aydt was treated at the scene. The driver of the Volvo was not injured, but his passenger was transported with minor injuries and released.

Police say damage to the building is estimated at $5,000. The restaurant closed the dining room for repairs, but the drive-thru is still open.
